MY FIRST FHI VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE
By Ashita Adhikari, FHI Delhi
I vividly remember the day of January 9th, 2018 when I was so cheerfully and warmly welcomed to the FHI family. It was the day which embarked my one year journey with FHI.
Vishal Sir, very soon, realized my interest in cartooning and appointed me as the Art Captain for the very first event! I was pumped and thrilled with excitement.
So on January 28th, 2018, the day of my first event and also the first event in Delhi by FHI, we all met at our venue, Bal Sahyog. And I was very late! I got tensed that how irresponsible and late people would think of me, but to my surprise, everyone greeted me with huge smiles and genuine warmth.
Believe me, that day was super exciting. With the super energetic kids (all boys!) present in high strength, I could feel the zeal in the air. I was amazed at how talented they were. They danced, sang and drew things far better than I possible can.
I knew my decision to join FHI was nothing but 100% great when the little boys held my hand and made me dance with them. They were beaming with happiness. Their smiles were so infectious that I could not help myself smiling and enjoying with them. We were there for 5 to 6 hours and at the end of the day, my legs were aching by dancing but my heart was racing so fast with happiness, contentment, pleasure and joy. Not to be surprised, the boys were still in high spirits.
I literally did not want that day to end. A little boy came up to me and said that he’ll miss this day and wanted us to visit again. And I knew I wanted nothing but the same.
I had never felt that kind of happy feeling before. I could feel the joy dancing in my heart all the way while returning to home until I dozed off to sleep that night, very content.
